The Artist and the Art
Maiu Lünekund is a self-taught painter who paints the feeling of wild places. She began discovering her love of painting back in 2015, when she also started hiking alone and found sketching outdoors the best way to combine her two interests - art and hiking.
Since then, she has worked as a sled dog and wilderness guide in North Sweden, travelled around Europe in her van with her two dogs, and done many long-distance hikes and winter skiing adventures - all of which have influenced her art.
Her work has grown into bold, layered abstracts, where colour has become her signature. She gathers ideas outdoors, often painting on location or filling a sketchbook, then carries that feeling back to her home studio space. There she lets her intuition lead, building each painting up in many layers.
Her paintings are held in private collections across Europe and North America, and she has also collaborated on fabric, apparel and product design.
She lives in Tartu, Estonia, with her partner and her dog Linkka.
